10 Reasons To Choose Organic Foods: Part 2

Because there are so many pros to buying organic, we have some more reasons why it may be in your best interest to make the switch from non-organic, if you haven’t already.

Flavor. One of the many bonuses of organic crops is that they have a tendency to offer more flavor than non-organic crops. It can be compared to meat, and the fact that a relaxed animal results in a much more tender and tastier flavor than the meat of an animal that is stressed out. The same is true for crops that are stressed out as a result of being under pressure to dig deep and find nutrients in the soil. These crops end up dedicating all of their energy toward their search for nutrients, and as a result, they have less energy to put towards their growth.  

A cleaner ocean. Like most things in life, everything ends up in the ocean. This poses a threat to the cleanliness of the water as well as the underwater life. The ocean makes up 99% of the living space on the planet and an estimated 50-80% of all life on earth, resides in the ocean. All of those pesticides and chemicals that are sprayed on crops around the world, ultimately end up in the ocean, threatening the life and future of the planet. There are many ways that these chemicals end up in the ocean. Sometimes they are leached through the soil into aquifers and other times the wind blows them along into all bodies of water. And there is always a bout of rain that can cause them to run off into the ocean. Think of it this way…the harmful chemicals that are sprayed on these crops are created to kill, and will do so, regardless of where they are.

Less monocropping. In monocropping, a single crop is planted in a large area, and the crops end up being incredibly vulnerable to dying off from a single disease or bug. In turn, farmers end up spraying even more chemicals, killing off everything surrounding the crop. As you can imagine, that crop ends up being packed with additional chemicals we recommend humans avoid ingesting. When there are a variety of crops planted in the same vicinity, there ends up being a large variety of different bugs, all of whom work together to support healthy plants and a healthy earth.

Less cash. Farming is a stressful and physically challenging job, and the reward doesn’t always outweigh the work. Considering non-organic farming is so large scale, it costs a lot of money that taxpayers end up being responsible for. There is far more money spent on cleanup, restoration, and public health. Some will say that non-organic farming is one big mess that needs to be dealt with.
